What Is a Rose Cut Diamond?
Rose cuts are a vintage style that sparked massive interest when Justin Theroux proposed to Jennifer Aniston with one in 2012.
The rose cut dates back to the 1500’s and were notable as the first ever multi-faceted cut. They are unique in that they have a domed top and flat bottom. The top faceting resembles a rose blossom long associated with love. The rose cut diamond quickly became the gem of choice for couples planning to marry.
The first record of an “engagement” ring is attributed to the Archduke Maximillian of Austria in 1477 for his betrothed, Mary of Burgundy. This sparked a trend for diamond rings among European aristocracy and nobility.
Why Are Wedding Rings Worn On The Left Hand?
The reason an engagement ring is worn on the 4th finger of the left hand dates back to Roman Empire times. The Romans believed that the vein in that finger ran directly to one's heart and named it “vena amoris” or vein of love. Naturally the marriage ring was placed on that finger to as a symbol of the love between husband and wife. brides.com/story/why-are-wedding-rings-worn-on-left-hand
This engagement story mixes fairytale with a virtual new age twist.
Prince Charming needed this engagement proposal to be a complete surprise. So, one of our jobs was to keep the ring design top secret. Another was to design the ring long distance since this customer lives in a different state. At Medlars Jewel Masters, our response was - no problem!
We took this consultation digital. (Since there are no fairy godmothers to help) With the help of technology, we were able to design and make this beautiful engagement ring.
Once delivered, our customers took a romantic helicopter ride over their new neighborhood and Prince Charming popped the question. Cheers to a new chapter!
A Christmas Miracle
McKenzie, who absolutely loves Christmas, had been pushing to get a Christmas tree all week but Quinton, her boyfriend, had a plan. Quinton would present McKenzie with both her dream tree and dream ring! Of course, things didn’t go quite as planned…
On a fateful Saturday as Quinton was getting a beautiful tree from HEB, McKenzie texted that she was just about to be at that HEB, did he need anything? Quickly he slunk through the parking lot and drove through the back roads so he wouldn’t be seen. He was able to get the tree and put up the decorations for the perfect proposal. Now where to hide the ring? The couch of course!
When McKenzie arrived home, she was so surprised and delighted she just wanted to sit and appreciate Quinton’s surprise. Of course, she sat on the couch where the ring was. How was he supposed to pop the question without the key element? He finally convinced her to stand next to the tree for a photo opportunity. Voilà! The ring, the question and the perfect tree lighting. A true Christmas miracle.
